Leak testing equipment:ensuring industrial safety and efficiency

leak testing machine
In all industrial environments, leakages result in the loss of precious resources, downtime and sometimes even hazardous occurrences that lead to fatalities amongst the workforce. Thus its imperative that all machinery in industrial surroundings be minutely checked for leakages. Leak testing equipments suffice this requirement and are widely used for checking containers, vessels, enclosures, pressurized systems etc. Along with being used for testing new systems and machinery, these are also used on repaired machinery to ensure they are fit to be used again.

Since the application of leak testing equipments span various industries, these are available in innumerable forms and specifications. Moreover, the working method of two or more leak testing equipments may be very different from one another. Some notable examples of these equipments are air leak tester, gas leak tester, leak detection kit, ammonia detector, methane detector, single gas detector, carbon monoxide detector, UV leak detector and many more.

Features that all leak testing equipments should have:
  • These should require minimal operator involvement, this ensures much lesser wastage of man hours at industrial facilities
  •  Moreover, all leak testing equipments should have the requisite safety features to protect the operator from fatal injuries in case of any unforeseen event
  • These should work flawlessly even in adverse weather conditions

  • These should be resistant to corrosion, high temperature, moisture and also UV rays

  • Owing to their nature of usage, these should have optimal tolerance to heavy duty usage

Advancements in leak testing equipments:

Until some decades ago, leak testing equipments were at best used sporadically. This naturally resulted in lower production efficiency at various industrial facilities. Moreover, the amusing fact here is that many industrial workers trusted their own instincts more rather than equipments when it came to leak detection. This approach obviously resulted in reduced efficiency and in some instances also lead to disastrous occurrences resulting in loss of lives. The fallout of these events was regulators in many countries making the usage of leak testing equipments mandatory.

As of today, leak testing equipments have greatly evolved in their design, efficiency and provide razor sharp precision when it comes to leak detection. There is a common acceptance that all leak testing equipments must be able to fulfill stricter regulatory leak test standards and at the same time should also not make the leak testing process too much costly. These are the abiding principles that every manufacturer of these equipments tries to adhere to during design and manufacturing process.
